One day my parents decided to let me go anywhere I wanted in our rowboat.
By myself.
It was a all-green 16-footer.
I was seven years old, and I had to wear a lifejacket whenever I went
out in it.
So rowing meant freedom to me.
Of course, sometimes it was more windy than I would have wished..
Then I needed to correct hard for the wind all the way..
I got blisters on my hands; but they toughened up
But I was proud of my independence, and I never complained.
Rowing still means freedom to me.
