This version of the Loudon offers the particular exercise of sliding-seat rowing, and the seaworthiness and storage capacity of a Loudon.
Please note that you should not expect the sliding seat rig to be any faster than the fixed-seat model. A sliding seat rig offers a the rower a different kind of exercise that many people will find attractive.A Technical Note on Sliding Seat rigs
It is a common misconception that use of a sliding-seat rig makes for a faster rowboat. While these rigs are capable of producing great power, the route to speed is not as simple as that. The speed of a rowboat is a function of the power of the rower, the rowing rig, hull design, and waterline length. A boat's utility, sea-kindliness, seaworthiness and storage capacity are other matters. Practical rowboat 'hull speed' is determined by waterline length, to a very great extent.
Generally, shorter boats are not as fast as longer boats.
If you like this form of rowing exercise, do it for that.
