Alone with your thoughts. 

Turning your head to choose your course. Picking up a landmark over the stern to steer by. 

Dip ... Dip ... Dip ... 

The sound of the oarlocks. 

The drip-drip-drip of the water coming off the oar on the backstroke. 

 The sound of your own breathing. 

 Pulling solidly, as the boat glides in response te boat glides in response to your effort.
Compensating slightly for a crosswind. 

The wake as it courses off the stern. 

 Watching the wake over the stern.
It feels just right. A short pull, and she glides through the water. Glides. 

How sweet it is to pull lightly through the water, slicing serenely, gently, silently.

I didn't realize that a fibreglass boat could be as nice as this, as natural.
